FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: (215) 677-6100 August 28, 2007 McAleer, Democratic Candidate in the 10th District’s Councilmatic Race Files Property Tax Appeal For All Northeast Residents. Sean McAleer, Democratic candidate in Northeast Philadelphia's 10th Councilmatic Race, today announced that he will file a property tax appeal for any resident in Northeast Philadelphia that is unhappy with their 2007 property tax assessment. Call his office at 215-677-6100 and leave your name, address, and telephone number where you can be contacted. “If Northeast Philadelphia residents stand together and file a joint appeal as one large group then we stand a better chance that the BRT will reduce our property taxes”. “We have lost too many good tax paying residents to the surrounding Philadelphia counties”. “Enough is Enough!! It’s time to stop punishing good tax paying Philadelphian’s and start punishing the individuals who created our financial deficits. Let’s forget about political affiliation and start working together to improve this great city. Our children’s futures depend on our actions now! “The Choice is Clear McAleer for City Council-District 10”.
Greetings to all, 93 days until the Marine Corps Marathon. "Only our individual faith in freedom can keep us free" Dwight D. Eisenhower. We thank Eileen Songer, Marine Corps Marathon coordinator, for her continued help. She secured a running slot for our newest runner Jon Sorenson. We wish to acknowledge a $400 day this past Friday. We thank Joe and Mary Kennedy for their donation. The Jim Junod Lodge, through Joe Gavagan, sent in $100. Sean McAleer, one of my former students, who is running for political office, sent in $200. I was very impressed with his letter and especially with this sentence, "To date this is truly the best donation I have made". I'll attach his letter for your review. We slowly approach our low end objective of $10,000. We are at 31%. I will attach a list of our contributors. I am still amazed that we have not hit a faster stride with the effort invested. But to be honest, fewer than five have accounted for the work effort. I pray that our effort will soon push us closer to our mid range objective of $15,000. Today is Union Day. Mailings and hand delivered promotional materials will be sent to about a dozen of our prominent Labor Organizations. Plumbers Local 69 have already indicated support. You should know that our runners are being challenged as never before. We are fast closing in on Marathon Day. Our running team has sustained some injuries. Tom Gaus, is back to running but cannot sustain long runs. Steve still has knee problems but is pushing his distance forward. WE become more susceptible to injury as we age and pile on the miles. With regard to pain. There is plenty to go around. But we must realize when we should push through it and when we should not. Fatigue is not pain but causes a lot of it. Extreme dehydration must be avoided. I have resolved my leg issue and completed a slow twelve yesterday. Gosh...it was many years ago when I ran my first mile and felt like I had run my first marathon...Boy Oh Boy...what I did not know. Still, all of this is exciting and beyond worth while. Ooh Rah! Bill Hang has signed up for the Philadelphia Half Distance Run, a half marathon 13.1 miles. It was good to hear from Dave. Our newest runner Jon Sorenson got registered and will join us on Marathon Day. Finally, all of our registered runners have received a fund raising page from The Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund. If you would be so kind to send me your web site, I would appreciate it, as I need to get an accurate account of how much we have raised. And do not worry about your obligation of raising $250 for it is covered by the overall initiative. Finally my good friends, I leave you with this: Thank you all of our donors (and runners) who make this important work possible. Your support is a cherished reminder of the nobility of serving others. For three years the entire Semper Fi Family has been richly blessed to work with our wounded service members and their families. They are both the reason and the inspiration for what we do each and every day. Forever Grateful, Karen Guenther - Founder and Executive Director The Injured Marine Semper FI Team. Semper Fi Sean P. Urgent Community Meeting
Dear Neighbors, please join Sean McAleer, Ann DiMaio, representatives from our local elected officials, and T-Mobile’s legal team at our next community meeting as requested by the Philadelphia’s Zoning Board to discuss a possible solution to our community’s opposition of the installation of Cell Phone Antennas on the Roof and a Sub Station in the Rear of the: Background…. The first community meeting was held at St. Jerome’s School Hall on April 25, 2007 as a result of the neighbors’ outcry against the 1/31/07 installation of twelve cellular antenna panels and related equipment including the support structures, guidelines and sub-station at the Holme Circle Apartments without the suspected proper permits/licenses and community’s notification. Attendees voted not to accept T-Mobile’s compromise to move antennas closer to center of the roof but voted instead to pursue removal of same based on an illegal installation. A subsequent meeting was held at the Zoning Board of Adjustment on June 12th in which Committeepersons Sean McAleer and Ann DiMaio presented our case concluding that the apartments are zoned the same as our homes; therefore, all permits, licenses and variances must be approved by the Zoning Board BEFORE the initiation of any work. In this case, T Mobile failed but, instead, found a loophole and “ran with it” causing the uproar. Our representatives at the meeting requested the Board to rule in favor of the community. Appeal hearing to be continued. After a convincing presentation, the Board then directed T-Mobile to meet again with the community to try and work out a solution; hence, the July 25th meeting was scheduled in compliance to exercise all possible options. PLEASE KEEP UP THE MOMENTUM -- WE NEED YOUR PRESENCE AND SUPPORT! COMMITTEE PERSONS : Sean McAleer (267) 767-8384 Ann DiMaio (215) 671-0599
